The name "Apt" comes from its definition as "an appropriate and intelligent solution to the task at hand." The Apt Corporation was founded on this principle. They designers utilized time-tested designs and improved on them with the shortest possible signal paths, highest quality components, and most simplistic approaches. Because, simpler is often times better.
The Apt Power Amplifier 1 exemplifies simplicity. Visually, the amp is kind of small, standing only about 4 inches high. The plain battleship grey faceplate and textured body hide an internal network of components that come together seamlessly to produce beautifully articulated sound. One of the secrets of this design is the DC-coupled power stage output, which means there are no capacitors in the output to color the sound or present phase shift issues. Adding to this, an ultra-low-noise DC servo input/output feedback circuit which constantly monitors fidelity, and the result is glorious power.
Conservatively rated at 100 watts per channel, many online resources have tested these amps at 10-20% higher than that at less than 0.1% THD. These amps are also able to be bridged, with up to 250 watts each on-tap for mono duties.
