This keeps the seal free of compression for longer life. The seal has no adhesive, so you can easily remove and replace it on the plunger. Purchase replacement seals here.
Cleaning: For daily use, a simple rinse is all you need — the plunger wipes the chamber clean as you brew. You can also wash it in the dishwasher (top rack only). Occasionally remove the seal for a thorough wash with warm water and dish soap. If your chamber gets sticky, wash it with vinegar.
