Why Choose the HI779 Checker HC?
Traditional chemical test kits rely on subjective color matching, which can lead to inaccurate readings due to lighting conditions, color perception differences, and reagent degradation. The HI779 Checker HC eliminates these variables with objective digital colorimetric measurement, giving you consistent, reliable pH readings every time you test your pool or spa water.
How It Works
The HI779 uses the colorimetric adaptation of the Phenol Red method, a proven technique for pH measurement in pool water. Simply add the reagent to your water sample in the provided cuvette, insert it into the meter, and press the button. The built-in LED light source illuminates the sample at 525 nm, and the silicon photocell detector measures the color intensity to calculate an accurate pH reading displayed digitally on the LCD screen.
Perfect for Pool & Spa Maintenance
Accurate pH Control
Maintaining proper pH levels (7.2-7.8) is critical for swimmer comfort, sanitizer effectiveness, and equipment longevity. The HI779 gives you the accuracy you need to make informed chemical adjustments and keep your pool water perfectly balanced.
Better Than Test Strips
Unlike test strips that fade, expire quickly, and require subjective interpretation, the HI779 provides objective digital readings that remove human error from the equation. No more squinting at color charts in varying light conditions.
More Affordable Than pH Meters
While traditional pH meters offer excellent accuracy, they require regular calibration, electrode maintenance, and storage solution. The HI779 delivers comparable accuracy for pool applications without the complexity or ongoing maintenance costs.
Easy to Use
Collect sample: Fill the cuvette with pool or spa water to the line
Add reagent: Add one packet of HI779 reagent and mix
Insert & measure: Place cuvette in the meter and press the button
Read result: Digital pH reading appears on the LCD display in seconds

Testing Tips for Best Results
Sample collection: Collect water sample at elbow depth, away from return jets and skimmers
Clean cuvettes: Rinse cuvettes with sample water before filling to avoid contamination
Mix thoroughly: Ensure reagent is completely dissolved before measurement
Avoid bubbles: Tap cuvette gently to remove air bubbles before inserting
Wipe exterior: Wipe outside of cuvette with clean, lint-free cloth before inserting
Test regularly: Test pH at least 2-3 times per week during swimming season
Store properly: Keep reagents in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
Understanding Pool pH
Ideal Range: 7.2 - 7.8 pH
pH Too Low ( Acidic water can cause eye/skin irritation, corrosion of metal equipment, etching of plaster, and reduced chlorine effectiveness.
pH Too High (> 7.8): Alkaline water can cause cloudy water, scale formation, reduced sanitizer efficiency, and eye/skin irritation.
The HI779 helps you maintain optimal pH levels for safe, comfortable, and crystal-clear pool water.
