How the Mercuric Nitrate Titration Method Works

These reagents follow the proven mercuric nitrate titration method for accurate chloride determination:

pH Adjustment: The pH of the sample is adjusted to approximately pH 3 with the nitric acid reagent, turning the solution yellow

Chloride Reaction: Mercuric ions present in the titrant react with chloride in the sample to form mercuric chloride

Endpoint Detection: Once all chloride is converted to mercuric chloride form, excess mercuric ions form a purple complex with the diphenylcarbazone indicator

Result Determination: The number of milliliters of titrant used to change the solution's color from yellow to purple determines the chloride concentration in mg/L (ppm)

Benefits of Pre-Measured Reagents

✅ Eliminates measuring errors: No need to measure or mix reagents yourself

✅ Consistent results: Pre-measured formulations ensure test-to-test accuracy

✅ Saves time: Ready to use right out of the bottle

✅ Reduces waste: Precise quantities minimize excess reagent usage

✅ Simplifies testing: Easy-to-follow procedure with color change endpoint

✅ Quality assurance: Manufactured to strict standards with traceability

Ideal Applications

Perfect for testing chloride levels in:

Drinking water quality monitoring

Wastewater treatment facilities

Aquaculture and fish farming operations

Swimming pools and spas

Boiler and cooling tower water

Food and beverage processing

Environmental water testing

Laboratory analysis and research

Industrial process water monitoring

Why Chloride Testing Matters

Chloride is a common ion found in natural waters and can indicate:

Water quality: High chloride levels may indicate contamination from road salt, sewage, or industrial discharge

Corrosion potential: Elevated chloride accelerates corrosion of metal pipes and equipment

Taste and odor: Chloride concentrations above 250 mg/L can cause salty taste

Agricultural impact: High chloride can damage crops and affect soil quality

Regulatory compliance: Many industries must monitor chloride to meet environmental regulations

What's Included

HI3815-100 Replacement Reagent Kit contains all necessary reagents for approximately 110 chloride tests, including:

Mercuric nitrate titrant solution

Nitric acid pH adjustment reagent

Diphenylcarbazone indicator

All reagents are clearly marked with lot number and expiration date for quality control and traceability.

Storage & Handling

Storage: Store reagents in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep bottles tightly closed when not in use.

Expiration: Check expiration date marked on each bottle. Do not use expired reagents as accuracy may be compromised.

Safety: Follow all safety precautions listed on reagent labels. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment when handling chemicals.

Hanna Quality Assurance

Hanna Instruments manufactures these reagents in a state-of-the-art facility using high purity chemicals and strict quality control procedures. Each batch is clearly marked with lot number and expiration date, ensuring traceability and reliability for your critical water testing applications.

Genuine Hanna Reagents: For best results and accurate measurements, always use genuine Hanna replacement reagents designed specifically for your HI3815 Chloride Test Kit.

Note: These replacement reagents are designed exclusively for use with the Hanna HI3815 Chloride Test Kit. For complete testing, the HI3815 test kit (sold separately) is required.
